To get a downloadable summary of student progress, you can go to your class>Settings

Then click on "Download CSV"

Does the "student data" show actual problems and answers as opposed to just showing how many questions were correct for a certain topic?

No, it does not show the actual problems and answers - just overview statistics like you mentioned.
