I think you could achieve the affect you want with a teacher account system.

Teacher accounts appear to be robust and functional.  It does require bit of a learning curve and I'm sure I configured my account incorrectly. 

Prior to discovering teacher accounts, I configured my two sons using a "parent" account and logging into each kid's account to select courses.

Upon discovering and using teacher accounts, I had to create a class and add students.  If your kids are twins, triplets or on the same level, life is good – one class, add kids and assign.

In my case, my kids are diff ages, hence I had to place each kid in a unique class.  There are three choices – sharing a class code, creating their profile and a 3^rd that I forgot. 

Initial issue – upon adding each kid to a class, I kept getting errors.  Eventually, I figured out there’s a “coach” box to click in the “parent” account. 

Where I’d love to get some insight => my initial “parent” account became my “teacher” account after I turned on the “teacher” check box later in the day.  Both "parent" and "teacher" boxes are clicked.

In the “parent” account, my kids were added and email addresses were linked.  I left the initial setup as is and then “turned on” the teacher layer.  That is, in the “parent” account I am also the “teacher” assigning classes that I had initially assigned earlier in the day while logged into each kid’s account. 

Everything looks good, but not sure what I’d see a month from now.  Robust and scalable, but cumbersome. 

It’d be great if parents can assign to individual kids and the class option used/reserved for teachers. 

Add the assign functionality and teacher dashboard views to parent accounts.

So I homeschool, and this year I have a fourth grader and twins in kinder. I do separate classes for each grade level, and with the 4th grader this year, I’m assigning 1-3 assignments per day per subject, and it typically only takes 5-10 minutes.

In previous years, I had 7 kids ranging from preschool through high school. Because I wanted them working together on certain things (7/9 for history, 5/7 for science, etc), I did one big class and selected general (no course). In each child’s account, I selected the courses, and I just used my account to track progress for all of them.

Ime, most parents don’t want to assign anything and the teacher dashboard is too confusing to them. I do think that khan should have a fourth option when signing up for homeschool parent, and that should automatically do both parent and teacher dashboards.
