Currently, most students get peer evaluation within a day on the official Intro to JS projects. This applies to “What’s for Dinner?” and “Ad Design”, which make up the bulk of the delivered projects. Many students also receive speedy feedback on the more advanced projects because they have their own coach or friends to swap evaluations with.

For the less well connected students the situation can be very different. In order to reduce the maximum wait time from 3 weeks to 2 weeks, between Feb. 28th and March 22nd the project queue was reduced from 6665 to 3105 projects. In other words, the evaluators had to take care of about 3560 more evaluations than were delivered - about 257 hours of extra work. Obviously this reduction is the work of many students, teachers, parents and other volunteers. We’d like to thank all the people who have helped reduce the evaluation queue lately by doing more evaluations than they have received!

At the same time we’d like to give particular thanks to a crew of students who came together to do evaluations, learn more about delivering high quality feedback and and identify problem behavior in the evaluation queue, under the guidance of Doing Great Project Evaluations Spring 2020.

Project Statistics

Evaluations performed by all DGPE students and leaders during those 23 days: 1352

Plagiarized projects identified: 404

Inappropriate projects identified: 14

Incorrectly passed projects reported: 85 which lead to Guardian intervention

Incorrectly failed projects reported: 32 which led to PI’s and DGPE leaders reaching out with information

Of course a huge thanks to you, Inger and all the other organizers for the project. I appreciate how much effort you've put into facilitating learning for many students. You've helped to turn many people into great evaluators.

A very, very, special thanks to Chris Rennick, Evan Lewis, Inger Hohler, and Janice Holz for organizing this project and managing everything. I'd like to specifically thank Evan Lewis for his hard work having his Guardian responsibilities he needs to take care of, helping manage this project, and reaching out and intervening to specific users and projects.

Also, I'd like to thank Jonathan Bagwell for being my Peer Instructor for the Spring project. Without him, I wouldn't have received my What's for Dinner, Magic 8 Ball (will earn within the week - thanks Inger for extending my personal DGPE project deadline to achieve this milestone), or Fish Tank Milestones. He also pointed out a critical aspect of DGPE-compliant evaluations - specific praise for ALL projects, regardless of pass or fail!

And last but not least, I'd like to give a shout out to the Khan Academy staff for allowing the DGPE projects to happen. Without it, I wouldn't be motivated to evaluate what is now a number over 100, and I was at less than 300 total evaluations in November.

I am looking forward to hopefully becoming a Peer Instructor for the Summer 2020 DGPE Project and continuing to help and support hundreds of users who are a part of Khan Academy's Computing Platform through the DGPE program.

Thank you, Chris, Evan, Inger and Janice, for having organized this project!

Amongst our busy lives and disrupted schedules, it’s good to see we managed a great team effort and we gave high quality evaluations to lots of projects. I’m sure the students we helped are very grateful for all the encouragements, suggestions and support! :-)
