Complaint about the AI voiceover dub for language specific regions
Khan academy in my region (India) has switched to AI voiceovers called sky loom in order to morph Sal’s voice to an Indian accent, in almost all of his videos, new and old. Apparently this was done in order to reduce the cultural distance that Indian students faced by hearing an American accent? I can assure you that we were perfectly fine with sal’s voice and his diction, and this new change has caused nothing but inconveniences for us students. The new AI voice is robotic, cold and lacks any expression, which I believe are major roadblocks to effective learning. We find it extremely difficult to focus or even enjoy the videos, now that they are dubbed this way. I sincerely hope that the amazing people at KA fix this problem as soon as possible, and revert back to Sal’s wizened and soothing voice on all the videos that has underwent this unnecessary and crushing change. Another thing that I thought Needed mentioning was that a survey or a poll, vote could have been set up to gather the general consensus on this very controversial change. Students could have been shown what the voice would sound like and if they preferred it. Such an important prerequisite should have been performed in such cases, and has not been done so to my knowledge. I pray that the kind people at KA see this post and effectively upon it. Thank you.
