I want to learn how to read as an adult
Hello and I hope everyone is doing fine during these crazy times. I’m looking for help to learn how to read. I notice I started to fall behind in the 3rd and 4th grade and by the time I started middle school I didn’t get the individual help I need and fell more behind. When I entered high school in the 9th grade I was test for special resource, in the meeting they said that most kids that have a learning disability have problems with all the subjects and I didn’t. They told me in 9th grade that I had a 5th grade reading and a 12th grade math leave. I was embarrassed about my reading and writing skills, so I applied to low level jobs that didn’t have much pay. While I was lucky and got a grant to get a MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) I had to study twice as hard as others and spend a lot of time reading to family to make sure that I was reading it correctly. I’m now working in that field and have been for some time, by I still hold myself back and don’t advance because I’m afraid the people will think I’m stupid because I don’t read or write well. As technology get better so do tools for me to write and read get easier. I realized today that I picture read and spell, it must look right instead of sound right. I also realized that I can read and write better than I think if I take my time and sound it out. I’m looking for help to learn how to read all over from the beginning maybe this time it will be easier. I don’t know where to find someone to help me, there are lots of learning center for kids but not for adults. Can someone make some suggestions of where I can start to get help?
