Nested Fractions

Hello all,
I am currently working my way through Algebra Basics and loving it! However, I am a little confused about the following equation.

I am now able to understand the process of solving the equations but I am a little confused on the answer of this one.
I always end up with 2x(x+2)/4x(x-4).
In the step-by-step solution I see that 2x is removed along with 4x and the following stays.

My question is why does 2 in the denominator stay and not 2x?
Also, how does the 2 in the numerator become 1, and the -4 in the denominator become 1?
Thanks in advance,
James
