Recommendation
Samuel Davis, high school Sped teacher in Springfield Missouri here. I use your program with many of my classes, catching students up on skills, such as reading, writing, and Math, which they are behind on. I had a couple ideas for additional content that I wanted to make. In addition to helping students reach grade level with their skills, Sped teachers also help students with career exploration. I love your new "Career" section, I plan on using it this (2018/19) school year, however I do have a recommendation. Under the section "Build and Fix Things" it would be helpful if there were a bigger selection of the Tech skills. For instance: Plumber, HVAC, Electrician, Lineman, Auto-Body work, ect. Many students with disabilities will not end up in a traditional four year college, Sped teachers can help students improve their weak areas, but we will not eliminate their disability of Dyslexia, Math, ADHD, ect. These students tend to gravitate to the tech trades as these trades require shorter post high school education, don't require routine interaction with their particular disability, and in the case of students with ADHD, allow regular movement which makes the "Hyper-Active" part of their disability a benefit rather than a negative. While as a Missouri teacher I have access to "Missouri Connections" website which does a great job of providing students with info about tech as well as other careers; as I already have my classes use your program as a resource, I would love to have more content available from Khan academy about these topics. Thank you for your time. - Samuel M. Davis, Sped Teacher, Springfield Mo.
