Hello!
As part of our Support Community improvement project, we’re preserving inactive posts that have historical or community value and closing them to new comments. This is one of them!
If this post covers a topic that you’re interested in discussing with the community or requests a feature you’d like to see on Khan Academy, you can try to find an active post about it and add your thoughts (or feel free or create a new post if it doesn’t yet exist in the forum).

I am middle school teacher in Arizona and have been using this only for a few days now but this is what I know:
1. They will see their scores and unfortunately/fortunately can change them on their own. This means you can have them add their own scores, which is nice, but also those mischievous students can change their scores at any time and thus the content that displays.
2. Depending on their scores there are a lot of topic options for them to choose from, working at their own pace. My students actually completed a lot more skills today than in previous days, so it seems the skills is gives them access to really are at their level. They can choose to work in any of the 4 different content areas and in any of the many skills provided in those areas.
Hope that helps!

Hi Heidi! I'm Ben, I'm helping build the MAP tool.
1. We don't save the scores. But students will see recommended exercises at their level based on their scores. Just have them visit khanacademy.org/maptest to see them.
2. The recommendations students receive are based on their MAP score . You can see the breakdown in the table of contents section of khanacademy.org/maptest . For example if a student has a score of 180 in Geometry then we recommend the exercises in the Geometry 179-191 section.
I hope that helps!
Ben
P.S. kday and others you are welcome to try the pilot too. Just visit khanacademy.org/maptest to get started.

Hi Ben,
While I was looking for another topic entirely, I stumbled across this thread and am thrilled that you are working on a program that provides a correlation of Khan lessons and MAPS scores. I have the print out of related topics for each RIT range, but this makes my life (and my students') so much easier! I teach 5th grade in Poway, and would love to help with the Pilot if you need additional teachers. My class and I jumped into Khan this year and we all love it!

I just saw this response from Heidi that came into our Spam filter as a result of replying directly to an email notification, so I'll post it here as others might find it useful:

Ben- Thanks so much for the information. I did a bit more research and have some more questions that I'm hoping you can help me with:
1) Is the overall score sufficient for the MAP recommendations? We have the total score but it's not broken out. Can we use the total score for each category?
2) I have found in some posts that the MAP score is displayed in the portal and the students and/or parents can change the MAP score to get a different recommendation list. Is this correct? And if so, is there a way this feature can be 'turned off'?
3) If the students are using the MAP assignments, can other grade level support/assignments be assigned from the teacher as well?
4) Once a score is entered in the portal for a student, is the only flexibility/adaptability for students to advance into another recommendation list by changing the MAP score manually or will it adapt automatically? Thanks so much for your time and support. -
Responses to Heidi's questions:
> 1) Is the overall score sufficient for the MAP recommendations? We have the total score but it's not broken out. Can we use the total score for each category?
Yes. You can use the total average score. The alignment won't be as good, but I think it will still be helpful.
> 2) I have found in some posts that the MAP score is displayed in the portal and the students and/or parents can change the MAP score to get a different recommendation list. Is this correct? And if so, is there a way this feature can be 'turned off'?Not yet. It's on the to do list.
> 3) If the students are using the MAP assignments, can other grade level support/assignments be assigned from the teacher as well?Yep! All of the normal coach reporting tools still work. I'd look at recommendations to get started.
> 4) Once a score is entered in the portal for a student, is the only flexibility/adaptability for students to advance into another recommendation list by changing the MAP score manually or will it adapt automatically? That's right. We plan to make this easier. Though in practice the recommendations take students long enough that they shouldn't have to switch often.
