Hello everybody. I am interested in learning Physics but I have a bit of a dilemma. I am not sure which Physics course I should use to start off. It seems to me that Physics NGSS is more concise, but probably doesn't have all of the course material yet. Whereas Physics does seem to be completed. My question is should I start with Physics, and then when I am done, move on to NGSS, or should I just do one or the other by itself?
Hi Nathaniel! Student of both courses here, just to share some thoughts on how to go about. Short answer: both courses, in your personalised way! But the truth is that NGSS High School Physics, while rigorous and demanding, follows from the NGSS Middle School Physics. This Middle School Physics is less math and more qualitative, but dives deep into the concepts.
Taking the course challenge a few times, and maybe filling in gaps till you get an 80 or 90% on the course is a good idea. Shouldn't take too long if you have mastered the basics, but good thing if it takes time because you needed that refresher.
In parallel, you may also want to first start with the Intro to Physics video in the non-NGSS HS Physics course. It's an amazing video that gets you excited to master Physics on Khan Academy, showing you how understanding the subject unlocks a whole new world.
But in general, taking the course challenge to sample the skills, then filling in gaps is always a good idea. Sal Khan has recommended this in so many of this Ask Sal Anythings and even the Get Ready Math tutorial. Hope this helps!
