take some inspiration from duolingo
i feel like khan could take some inspo from duolingo to make learning more fun and kinda "addicting" like duolingo is. here are a few features duolingo has that i think would make khan so, SO much better. ok 1. quests. duolingo gives you objectives, rather than just saying "go study". like for example:
today's quests:
- complete one lesson
- master two skills
- earn 300 energy points
- practice one weak skill
they can be daily/weekly/monthly... whatever, yk? but yeah if you complete a quest you get a reward like energy points or something. ok now 2. friend quests. yes, i know all y'all khan people are not willing to do friend things cos it would be too much work to go through chats and stuff and make sure ppl aren't doing inappropriate stuff but hear me out on this one, we don't need chats to have friends. friends can be for the sake of doing friendship quests tgt, or friend streaks, or even comps against each other (for example, who gets the most energy points over the course or a week). like duolingo. khan academy doesn't have to become a social media platform just to add a friend option. ok 3. friend streaks. yeah. 4. personal records/high scores. duolingo gives achievements for personal records like
- most xp in one day
- longest streak
- highest league (we'll get there soon dw)
- most perfect lessons in a single day
and keeps them as trophies on your profile. now THAT'S more impressive than "oh, they have the hypatia badge. idc." 😭 like khan could have
- most ep in one day
- most skills mastered in a week
- longest streak
- longest study session
- highest challenge score
etc. this is better than comparing yourself to other people bc you're competing against your own past records. 5. leaderboards. i don't even have to explain this. if you know how the duolingo one works that should be enough. 6. reward chests. just like how in khan academy kids there's that little delivery truck that gives you a gift after you've done a certain amount of learning? we should have gifts every once in a while too. and 7. daily time goals. they should add a feature that allows you to add your own daily goal of the amount of time you want to study and yeah, follow it until it's done i guess. much more satisfying than seeing a course percentage.
and that's pretty much it. khan academy already has the education part. duolingo has got the motivation part. why not just combine the two?
