Content update: New SAT® Reading and Writing Challenge units (SAT® Math coming soon)
This summer, Khan Academy is expanding its Official Digital SAT® prep with three new Challenge units for SAT® Reading and Writing.
These new units are designed for students who have already mastered the Advanced units and are looking for additional practice with the most difficult questions they'll encounter on test day. We expect to publish these new units on July 1, 2026.

What are Challenge units?
Challenge units provide advanced practice for students aiming to maximize their SAT® Reading and Writing scores.
The new units cover the major Reading and Writing content domains:
- Information and Ideas
- Craft and Structure
- Expression of Ideas
- Standard English Conventions
Practice questions are modeled after some of the most challenging questions students may encounter on the SAT®, helping learners strengthen advanced reading, analysis, and reasoning skills.
Who are these units for?
Challenge units are intended for students who have already completed the Advanced units and want additional opportunities to practice at the highest level.
These units can help students:
- prepare for the most challenging SAT® Reading and Writing questions
- build confidence with complex passages and advanced reasoning
- strengthen skills across every major Reading and Writing content domain
- continue preparing after completing the core SAT® Reading and Writing course
Will this affect mastery progress?
Some users may notice a small change to course mastery percentages as new Challenge units are added to the SAT® Reading and Writing course.
These updates do not remove previously completed work or accomplishments.
More SAT® prep resources are on the way
The new Challenge units are just the beginning.
Challenge units for the SAT® Math course are coming soon, giving students additional opportunities to practice the most difficult math concepts tested on the SAT®.
We're also adding new worked-example videos to the SAT® Reading and Writing course that demonstrate strategies for solving some of the exam's most challenging questions.

Why are we adding Challenge units?
Many students preparing for the SAT® are looking for practice beyond the standard course.
Challenge units provide an opportunity to continue building advanced reasoning skills using questions modeled after the most difficult material on the exam.
