I am teaching many 6th graders who are below "grade level". I love the idea of encouraging mastery before progression. Unfortunately, some of my children are operating at a third grade level. Why not change the grade to a level (3rd to Level 3 or blue or artichoke) so that children do not buy into the fallacy that an 11 year old must know 3rd grade level math or be somehow defective?

Thanks for sharing this! I'm afraid there's not a way for teachers to rename the courses or assigned content, but this is something that has came up before and is definitely an issue that's on our radar!
One thing that you may try exploring (if you haven't already) is using the content-named courses rather than the grade-level courses. For example, instead of assigning content from the 3rd Grade math course, you should be able to find most of the same content listed in the Arithmetic course, which is not associated with any particular grade level.
The Basic Geometry and Pre-Algebra courses also have significant content overlap with the 3rd-6th grade courses.
