New avatars, removed backgrounds

I noticed that too. At first I thought it wasn't loading, so I reloaded the background. When that didn't work I thought "Oh maybe there's new backgrounds too." So I try and change the background, but can't figure out how, so I went to the help section and found this. 

The avatars are nice, but I noticed that they arn't the normal, slightly detailed, pun for a name characters. Their kinda bland. So I agree with you about wanting the background more then the avatars. Also I have noticed that not many people have made the switch to one of the new avatars.

I haven't been on Khan Academy in about two yrs. I did realize that they don't have backgrounds anymore and think that it looks dull. But these new avatars are SOOOO adorable. But yes, I agree with you.

Yeah, I also agree. I thought since new avatars came out it would mean new backgrounds. It looks bad with no backgrounds. I hope Khan Academy fixes this.  I have no idea what the point was in removing this.

I have been using Khan Academy for some time now. Without backrounds it looks really bland and is not worth the sacrifice for the new avatars. The backrounds were so colorful and made the homescreen look a lot happier.

I agree. The new avatars are nice especially for beginners,but the profile looks pretty plain. And another thing: the last stars backround was the only way that u can say that u earned a million points since they retired the million points badge. I was very disappointed when they removed the backrounds bcs I was working very hard to get the last backround just as Mark Hans and Iheartzebras said

Definitely agree. I finally got enough points to get that beautiful blue galaxy background and only a few days later when I came into khan academy again I found out that it had gone :( Although I do think all the new charecters are absolutely adorable :)

I got enough points to get the beautiful blue space background, then it got removed. It makes no sense why they would do that! I think they should put the retired badges back too, they and the background were so fun to earn points towards.

I'd rather have backgrounds than new avatars

I thought my computer was messed up. After searching everywhere, now I know they removed this. How can they do that! This looks so plain and just bad! I really wish they bring back the background feature.

i want backgrounds too more than new avatars pls khan academy pls add backgrounds

I agree. I like the new avatars, but I wish they were able to evolve like the old avatars. It gave me something to shoot for. And I really miss the backgrounds. It made it fun to be able to customize my background. Gave me some bragging rights and also motivated me to want to earn more points seeing others with more advanced personalizations.

I'm fine with anything it's the content that matters

i used to have the last background which cost 1,000,000 energy points, but now that the background is removed...i don't even know anymore. i just really want them to add the backgrounds back with the new characters. YOU MUST DO IT KHAN ACADEMY, YOU MUST DO IT. 

Khan Academy should start bringing back the backgrounds and make a dark mode setting. Also, what petition?

PETITION SIGNED! I have not been online since early 2020, meaning I had no idea this happened. Now that the backgrounds have been removed, there is not much stuff on my profile for me to grind for. Now all I need to get is Baby Winston, but there used to be many Energy Points that you needed to get and show that you had that much. Anyway, this is the longest comment I have made today, so I am gonna end it there.

I agree, it does look plain and boring without background. The avatars look good but the sacrifice of backgrounds was not worth it.

I sign too! I didn't have an account when backgrounds were a thing, but hearing about them makes me want to see them! I hope Khan Academy will give them back! Petition DEFINITELY signed!
