Proper Terms for Native Americans

I'm glad this doesn't happen as much as it could, but there are multiple instances of (AP) American History articles and exercises referring to Native Americans as "American Indians." Not only can this be impolite, but it is also incorrect and confusing, so could you please change it? I know that terms such as "Indian Wars" and "Indian Removal" are just talking about what people thought in the past, so it is accurate to keep those, but that is different from the instances I am talking about.
