Recently-retired Badges (December 2020)

Yes, recently a few more badges were retired. These include:

• Going Transonic
• Going Supersonic
• Geek of the Week: Mastery
• Persistence
• Sticktoitiveness
• Picking up Steam

This is due to Khan Academy's massive on-going project to switch its program database to a different language. This blog post goes into more detail.

Going Supersonic - Quickly & correctly answer 20 skill problems in a row (time limit depends on skill difficulty

Geek of the Week: Mastery - Finish 5 mastery challenges in a week

Persistence - Answer a problem correctly after having some trouble with a few problems and sticking with the skill

Sticktoitiveness - Answer a problem correctly after having some trouble with many problems and sticking with the skill

Picking up Steam - Quickly & correctly answer 5 skill problems in a row (time limit depends on skill difficulty)

The ongoing project described in the blog post is still the main reason for retiring all of the badges that have been retired. This is the result of KA moving closer to the end goal and making changes to the website in preparation for these changes.

Elijah Daniels thanks for the quick response. The blog post you link to has been linked to by other recent (December 2020) posts. But it is now more than a year old, having been posted on December 20, 2019. (Today is December 23, 2020.)

One more thing, please - and anyone else, please feel free to answer this if Elijah Daniels hasn't had a chance to do so yet - Can you please explain what each of those badges was? I think earlier lists of retired badges listed their descriptions, too. When I posted my question, I expected to get the descriptions in the list. I am now kicking myself for not explicitly asking for them.

No! Picking up steam is my main source of badges!

Just pulled up the badges, they all seem to have really old badges and not being the ones we had (I wished Picking up steam, Going Tran-sonic, and Going Supersonic would have stay, because i would have earn so many from my answering of questions.)

I just put the photos of the badges as they do have existence on the site still.

@connormains how did you find these badges when they don't exist. Are they still viewable?

I really like the speed badges.

Please bring the speed badges back!
