Is this site accredited?
Is this site accredited and/or can it be used as a primary source for homeschooling?
No, it's not accredited, because it's not overseen by a teacher and the lessons aren't assigned by the site. KA was first intended to be used of individuals, to supplement and/or refresh their math skills. Now, they're partnering with teachers worldwide, but it's still (technically) a supplement.
Personally, while I love KA, I also acknowledge its limitations. I supplement word problems because I know that I've had several students who found the same problems coming up repeatedly. If I have a student who struggles, I move offline for whichever skills need remediation, otherwise the student will just memorize answers to specific questions.
But the biggest reason KA isn't accredited is because it's mastery learning, not grade-based. The point is that the student will learn and retain, not move on in a predetermined time frame.
Khan Academy certainly has the resources to be used as a/the primary source for homeschooling. However, I am not aware of any accreditation the organization may have acquired. (That doesn't mean it hasn't though.)
Hope this helps!
Thank you!
That could save countries countless $billions in student financial assistance for unnecessarily expensive college courses like math. Plus book costs at $200-$300 per text.
Colleges, universities, book publishers, and politicians would NEVER put up with that.
