Homeschooling placement test
I am homeschooling my children and I am not sure exactly on what level their Maths are. Do you have a test for them to do before I assign classes to them?
Hi Esther,
Unfortunately, as of now, Khan Academy does not have a placement test to assess where your children are at in their math level.
Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
Most people can usually benefit from going back a few grades behind their current official grade level.
They will either be able to speed through those sections or you will see that's where they need to be.
If you do not live in the U.S (which I guess for certain), try going back up to 3 grades. You might not have come across and mastered all necessary knowledge.
I am a homeschooling nanny.
When I start with a family, I ask for a parent to give their opinion of their children's ability per subject. I take their assessment as a starting point.
For example: I have kindergarten and 4th grade students this year. I started with assessing numeral and letter recognition for kindergarten. For the 4th grader, I used unit tests in KA's 3rd grade and Getting Ready for 4th grade math to assess whether this child was ready for 4th. This child needs remediation in fractions (3rd grade level), tested out of 4th grade place value and comparisons, and the rest of the math curriculum seems on level. She tested out of about a third of the grammar course, and needs some remediation with verbs.
We used to be able to use World of Math and there was an initial assessment. That assessment would give a rough idea of what the student should do first.
P Rossell, thank you. Very helpful suggestions.
