Hi there,

I was listening to the lesson on place value in Grade 3. The teacher read the four digit whole number, 5 thousand, 2 hundred and fifty six. And is only used when reading a number with decimal place values. The and is used to separate the whole numbers from the decimals.

I would really suggest changing this video so that the whole number is read correctly. That is a bad habit that I wouldn't want students to hear from an instructional video.

Hi Linda,

About your concerns with the decimal Place Value and the user of "and": I brought this up with our content team, and they explained that it might be helpful to clarify to your students that Sal does not say _hundredths_ at the end of 5,256 — which would indicate he is referring to a decimal, and not 5,256 as a whole number. The way he says "and" where he does is a fairly colloquial way of saying numbers, and it's a repeated theme in many of Sal's videos.
