Adding non-graded material

I'd really like to use KA for my upcoming Gen Bio class as an additional learning resource. I'd like to be able to add AP Bio course material to my KA course but I don't want to assign deadlines to non-quiz material.

Is it possible to make course material available to students but only assign deadlines to specific assignments?

If you assign, it has a deadline. But what I've done for things I want to give as optional work is to assign using a date that I tell the students mean optional. Or you could tell them anything due on any date at 1:23 or whatever is optional if you want to maintain the date. For my class, anything "due" June 1 was optional since that was after the school year.
