Too Many Questions, Not Enough Answers
If you have browsed through community questions in pre-algebra or SAT sections before, you probably know what I'm talking about.
Asking questions is one of the very important steps for learning. However, without people answering them, they are almost useless.
Also, there are some important questions, like the ones asked in SAT and other test-prep sections. I thought I could count on Khan Academy to understand a problem I got wrong, but soon found out that almost no one answers any question posted on the SAT section. It was a word problem, and I didn't know where to post it (or where I might get a good answer). I had no one to help me since I wasn't in an English-speaking community. In short: I was lost. (Fortunately, later I was able to find someone outside the country who could explain it to me... over the phone.) Many students could be facing this dilemma right now, and I think we should do something about it.
Yes, yes, I know, some questions can be unrelated, unhelpful or trolls, but other questions do ask for knowledge and comprehension. Even if one question sounds a bit too silly or suggests that the student is not trying at all, just answer it (or hint them towards the right answer). Students are here to learn, and not all of them can understand the videos. Some might have a problem not mentioned in the video. What if the student was home-schooled? What if their teacher didn't teach well? What if they (like me) lived in a country where English is not common? Now the opportunity for that student to understand the concept is lost.
All the rambling above asks for one thing: answering student's questions and better moderating community discussions should be one of the Khan Academy team's next (and primary) goals.
I'm well-aware of the marvelous work done by the Khan Academy team in the Math section, and I just want to see this site becoming better for students in the future.
Thanks for reading.
