Writing, Grammar, Mechanics, and Usage
I came to Khan Academy when I taught AP Art History last year for the first time. I am an English teacher by trade, so I was hungry for resources. The curricular support that Khan academy offered for AP Art History was OUTSTANDING! This year, I am only teaching English (grades 11 & 12), and I want to continue my use of Khan Academy. As I read through my students' English essays (on Google Classroom), I like to link resources for them as they have usage and mechanical errors. I really WANT to link to Khan Academy videos for grammar, usage, and mechanics, but they just don't get at the kinds of higher level errors my students are making. Take for example pronoun-antecedent agreement. My students are not making errors in calling "Jillian" "he." And while, yes, they are doing a singular pronoun for a plural antecedent, the examples KA provides are so rudimentary as to not be terribly useful for when students write more complex sentences. I know the humanities are not necessarily Khan Academy's original "wheelhouse," but they really could be! I'm just hoping you can explore some of the more nuanced and pragmatic elements of usage and mechanics. |
