Teachers want the old progress page (please upvote!)

The old progress page is critical to the way we monitor student progress towards remedial skill building. We provide students goals based on the number of standards mastered in a given time.  The new page does not allow us to access student progress towards their goal at a classroom level.  We must be able to see the total number of standards master within the mission during a custom time period. Without this ability, my school will likely stop using Khan on a regular basis and look for another program that can meet those needs.

I agree that the "leaderboard" ability of the old progress tab is critical in my classroom.  My students love the competition on seeing who has the most points and skills mastered.  It pains me that I can't find this now and believe it's removed.  I also miss the old progress tab by skill.  It was so much easier to glance with the naked eye at standards/skills and see how the class has done as a whole on skills.  Now, you really have to sort through the "familiar," "proficient," etc. to see how the class has done as a whole.  This hurts my building and my class tremendously.  I do not think the decile graph is as user friendly compared to the old progress tab.  

And it is important to see how much work a student has done within a custom time frame (IEP goals/progress or students giving effort for discussion at parent conferences.  

I'm happy with all of the other changes (especially how to see how individual students do on all assignments), but I really want the old progress tab back with all of it's functions (by skill and by student).

I completely agree with what has been already stated.  The old progress tab is a vital part of how teachers use Khan.  I almost gave up Khan last year after removing the the student progress / skills tab where I could print each student's progress on assigned skills.

Please keep the progress page so that we can continue using this program at our school.  Without it we cannot use Khan Academy at our school because we need to set goals for student progress (according to how many standards the students have mastered).  

I agree!  If you want to use Khan as the primary curriculum source, you need a way to calculate grades.  And the old progress report was the closest thing to a "grade book on the Khan site.  Additionally, the download report add flexibility to create custom excel reports.   

I agree! We need the old progress tab, please don't eliminate it. 

We monitor students by time and completed skills. We need the old progress page

It is still available, by clicking the link to "old report." But I'm afraid that it could eventually disappear. That would be a serious problem for many of us. I have no use for reports of what percent of a mission has been completed. I need to know which lessons my students completed this week, this month, etc. 

I have the same problem. In our district we use the old progress page in order to give students agrade. We assign students grade level specific missions to work on independently. We set the time rage to the reporting period and students are required to get a specific amount of skills mastered. My new cohort created a khan account and is only able to view the new progress page. She can not see a class or individual student progress on grade level missions because the new progress tab does not have this feature. Is there a way around this? We do not use the assignment feature as we want to see mastery of spiraled skills not just how they perform on individual assignments (also this feature requires lots of clicking and hand adding when you are trying to grade 100s of students). Please tell me this old report is not going away as this is detrimental to the way we use khan in our district. New teachers can not access with the new update

I am in agreement with this. I have been using Khan in the classroom for 8 years now. I know the old "can't teach a dog new trick" argument so I spent some time with the new report, but found that it sadly did not incorporate the old features in it. If you want to add new functionality, that is AWESOME! However, please do not remove the "old dog" stuff, as some of us old dogs would find Khan rather difficult to use in our classroom at that point and that would be EXTREMELY disappointing as we love learning math using Khan!

David Mullins: Absolutely! This isn’t even about new tricks for old dogs. The features we need just are not there.

Khan Academy's Progress Tab is virtually the only way I can manage "self paced practice" for each of my 100 students.  I'm heavily dependent on the ability to track the time they have spent actively working, the number of skills they have mastered, and the specific skills that continue to cause struggles.  This then informs my instruction for future lessons and inquiries.

Please continue to provide this information in some form or another as a resource to us teachers!

tgerdes, it seems as though anyone who created an account after the update cannot access the old progress page. I did not know this and it is even more alarming. Do you have a new account? If not, you should be able to find it where it says "take me to the old progress"

When I changed schools I had to change my KA teacher acct so I can't see the old progress page. :( RATS!

If you still have access to your old account you may be able to just add your new email address to the old account and see if it is visible. Then, potentially, you could delete the old email off the account and keep the old progress page. I haven't tried this personally, but it is worth a shot.

I need to old progress page to see how many kids are struggling.  This is crucial for offering small group instruction while working on remedial skills.  I feel like the new page does not give any information about how kids are progressing at all.

I think the features in the new progress page are great, but I can't afford to lose the features of the old page.  Specifically, I need to be able to see information PER STUDENT regarding their progress through a mission, rather than having to click on individual skills in the new page to see which list a particular student is on (familiar, proficient, or mastered).

I just want to be sure I add my voice to this - great to see the comments of some teachers that I have met (and truly admire) on this Khan journey (Hi David Mullins!  We miss you in Idaho!!)

I agree with all this is said above and I want to add that the Download feature on the old progress page allows me to continue awarding my students in our biweekly Khantests.  I spent countless hours creating posters for all of the teachers in our building and I cannot imagine what we would do without the ability to see what our students have accomplished over any timeline we set.  I look for time spent, badges, mastered skills, energy points, we even tally the number of skills moved to practiced, level one and level two.  It would be easy to deal with some changes in how you refer to the different levels of mastery (I know we are moving away from the Practiced, Level 1 and Level 2) but to not be able to access all of this data at all would dramatically limit my ability to properly incentivize the students in my classroom who are going above and beyond on Khan.  Please incorporate the new - don't do away with the stuff we love (and use!)  from the Old!

I am relatively new to Khan Academy. We are currently using iReady online with intervention students and because we're integrating into our regular math class time, in order to NOT call attention to those in intervention, we're having all students online on devices -- those on iReady and those in Khan Academy. iReady provides a very detailed report for each student's daily and ongoing progress (skills passed, not passed, time on-task, etc.). I need Khan Academy to PLEASE keep the "old" progress page because it provides far more detailed information than the newer version.

I've been saying "ditto, ditto, ditto" as I read the previous posts here. I'm totally in favor of fresh looks / new features -- but the "old" progress page provides information which does not appear to be available anywhere else! Most important for me is the ability to click on a specific student's name and see a list of all the activities they have worked on within a given time frame.

I do not assign tasks based on Khan Academy's Unit groupings. I assign activities based on what students need for the units I am designing for them. This often includes remediation, which necessarily samples from multiple "Units" across several "Courses". Seeing the percentage of students who have reached "Mastery" level within a particular Unit is meaningless information. I care about whether Johnny Smith did the "Order of Operations" exercise I assigned him, and which of the three tasks I offered Sally Sue to choose between she picked!

I will be continuing to use the "old" progress page exclusively. When the information I need becomes unavailable, the platform will be worse than useless for me.

I work mostly in math intervention, working with students who are behind. I have them start in kindergarten and work their way up. Along the way I use the Progress by Skill page every day to see where my students are getting bogged down and stuck. I need this page! The new report really is not very helpful. I also agree with everything else that has been said here. Khan has made some great improvements over the years, but sometimes the simplicity of the original is best. Please keep the old progress pages!

I definitely miss the old progress page! I used it to quickly identify who is struggling with different topics, then go straight to their desk to help them. I liked easily seeing "time on task" and skills they have mastered, attempted, and struggled with.

BRING BACK OLD PROGRESS features! The new "assignments" feature takes way too much clicking, and is less informative. Keep "activitiy" ... but add summarized "progress" please.

Agree with all of the above. I've tried to use the new progress page but the blunt reality is that most of the information I need simply isn't there and the rest of the information is tedious to access.

I think my needs are pretty simple (and relatively easy to implement):

• maintain the "old" progress format (including the csv data download)
• include all skills in some mission so that they can be viewed and downloaded from this page
• bring back individual recommendations (no, the assignments are not an adequate replacement)

The new progress page simply does not have the detailed information of the old progress page.  As a teacher, I need to be able to see the specific tasks that a student has been working on and I'd like to know how well they did on those tasks.

As a homeschool parent and a homeschool teacher I keep going back to the old page to get the individual breakdown of student information.  The new page looks nice, but really does not work for looking at individual students or giving me the breakdown of where they are struggling.  Class stats are nice, but the old page is really more useful in the classroom setting.  I am curious if you have actual teachers working on those displays.  I especially like the ability to check individual activity levels. I don't see that on the new page that allows me to monitor how much time they are really spending on things.

The old progress page is essential.  It is one of the few pages that provides useful information on students' progress.  The new progress page is an absolute mess and provides little real information.  I just noticed that the column for time spent has disappeared in the old progress page.  This is not good.  Is this just a glitch, or will it be coming back?

I use the Skill tab on the old progress page to assign skills since the Assign page provides no information on whether students have already mastered the skills involved.  I use the Student tab on the old progress page to see whether students have actually put any time in after a period of work.  If the time feature is gone for good, then it might be time to abandon Khan and look for a new program.
