Khan is my daughter's Mr. Riley
My daughter used to think she was not good at math and didn't like it. This broke my heart as I was a math/computer science major in college and learned to love math. For me, the turning point was my Algebra II/Trig teacher in high school. He taught me resilience. He taught me how to work and work, ask questions from him if needed and then it would come. My daughter, on the other hand has great teachers, but had yet to be inspired by math. Enter, Khan Academy... We first used it to ensure mastery. Starting at the end of third grade, I'd help her to go through Khan's third grade and it quickly helped us see where her gaps were. Starting last year near the end of 5th grade, I decided to encourage her to get ahead. She is now 59% of the way through 8th grade even though she just finished her 2nd trimester of 6th grade. Her confidence has skyrocketed. She is getting 100% on many of her math tests and finished with over 96%. This has even spilled over into her other classes. She learned that 100% is really attainable in all her classes.
Thank you to Sal, all the visionaries and especially all of the hard working engineers, designers, teachers and everyone that made this tool!
