Math features

I sometimes find it quite frustrating to type in answers as certain function types or symbols. I think commands like "\sqrt" which adds sqrt function or "\pi" which adds the symbol pi without having to click from a drop-down menu would help in convenience. Maybe I'm just too lazy to use a mouse or I'm addicted to keyboard.
