Online Bullying and unuseful posts on Early Math

Hi Khan Academy,

Currently I went through your Report a problem and got great support for noticing bullying and words being posted that were hurtful to young users and has been taken care of this one situation.

Most of the comments are positive but I noticed right now younger users in the early math section specifically counting there is more comments which are from different users while the are mild they could affect other users. Is there any way we can monitor this more?

I have been using the math section myself being older as reviewing and learning I will flag them.

Can we develop a system or algorithm that when the user flags the comment it will disappear from forums until a moderator reviews the comments.

Another is a basic word filter it may cost more but it would filter out the most harmful words.

Finally could we have not just in the computer science internet safety but also a section specifically for all audience's on internet safety teaching them etc.

Khanacademy.org is always a positive experience but I almost feel since users are hiding behind anonymous usernames etc. The younger users are to young to understand what they are typing with more awareness and education in online safety on khanacademy.org we may be able to create wise internet users.

Hi Katrina, thanks for helping to keep the video discussions clean. As you've probably seen, one flag is not enough to remove a comment. This is because malicious flagging is not unknown, and so removing flags would take up much Guardian time. If more people react it is likely that there is real cause for concern.

If you see something that should be removed quickly, sending a Help request as you have done before is always possible. While it's not an immediate affair, currently we have a reasonably good system for catching those first priority messages as there are Help desk workers in different time zones. However, using the correct form to report the problems is crucial.

There is already a word filter in place that catches and automatically removes quite a lot of messages every day, but in the end the filters never catch all (or if they do, they catch too much!) and humans are needed for quality control.

I hope this explains the process a little better for you. If you see swearing, dirty language or threats to other users that's definitely good reason to both flag and send a message through the Help center as we want to remove such utterances as soon as possible.
