We’re aware of a few issues affecting site performance, and during this time people may experience extreme slowness as well as unexpected error messages or red bar notifications. The developer team is working hard on identifying and fixing the issue, and no additional information is needed at this time.
That said - if this is happening to you, upvoting and/or commenting on this post will help give us an understanding of the scope of this issue. I'll update this post when we think we've fixed things.
9/14 - 4pm PDT update:
The team has addressed what they think was causing the worst of these issues, but there are still some things that are going to take another two days to complete. In the meantime the site should be much more stable than it was this morning, although periodically slower than normal, with occasional errors. If you run into errors, waiting a bit should improve things.
9/15 - 3pm PDT update:
The team has deployed a change they hope will address the root issue. It would be super helpful to know if you've experienced any difference in site stability after this.
9/16 - 2pm PDT update
Our backend team has been working on getting to the bottom of the underlying performance issues, but right now they think they've mainly been addressing symptoms, as opposed to the root cause. This has been a high-traffic week so that may be exacerbating an issue that had more quietly existed previously. Basically, they've fixed what should be causing major site issues, but it's definitely still possible that people might experience some temporary slowness / timeouts various times this weekend.
9/20 - 11am PDT update
I don't have any major news from our backend team, but I would just like to thank everyone who's been posting so far about their experiences and upvoting this conversation. It's super helpful for helping the team get a better understanding of what the situation they're seeing behind the scenes translates to on the ground, so please keep it coming.
9/26 - 3pm PDT update
The team thinks they have fixed the biggest issues relating to recent site performance. That said - if you're still experiencing a lot of slowness or errors, this is a great place to continue to highlight them. I'm unpinning this post for now though.
