Time Report not matching Student's activity Screen

We *just* released a fix for the issue of Activity Time not matching up - can you let us know if you still experience this issue this week?  Fingers crossed...

Okay...the weekly emailed report still does not match the Student Activity Report screen? Maybe it is the time frame. What is the time frame for the Weekly Emailed Report?

To Lharvey......regarding the Parent Timer versus Activity report....KA uses an "engaged time" algorithm ....so watching videos and answering questions are "engaged time" and are counted as activity minutes, however inactivity longer than 2 minutes (....I think I read that somewhere...) stops the "engaged time", so the activity clock turns off until a new activity or interaction occurs. I hope that helps.

Hi Catherine - the emailed report is measured in UTC, which may be several hours off from your local time (which is what your profile time is displayed in).  Do you think that would explain the discrepancy?

Hi Laurie....What is UTC time? How does that affect when the emailed  Weekly Activity Report is generated and sent?

UTC time is the main time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time, which a lot of software uses as the default way to measure a day.  Because our email reports are generated automatically based on a universal trigger, it uses UTC for the sake of consistency.  UTC corresponds to GMT (London) so it may be several hours off from the way that your coach tools are set up (everything but the email reports are based on your local time).

Hi Laurie, Thanks for the explanation about UTC. I am in the USA Eastern Time (or -5 GMT). What time does Khan Academy generate and email the Activity Report? Maybe I can shift the time frame of the standing assignment in a way that my students will understand?

I have students who say they've spent time, but no time appears on the teacher screen or perhaps just a fraction of their time shows up.  I'll sometimes see it on their screen, however, when I log into their accounts (but not always).  With some parents, they've e-mailed me saying their child entered the time, but I don't see the time, even when I log into their child's account.  Barring that the parent is not lying (there are several parents who say this is happening), how do I get this problem fixed?

Hi Francine. I've had some issues with this too. 90% of the time the reason I cannot see my student's time is because they are NOT logged in with the account associated with my class. Too minimize that problem on the playlist (MS Word or Google Doc) or the Google Classroom assignment STREAM, I create a link to Khan Academy's Login Page and repeatedly ....REPEATEDLY.....remind my students to login with their District email address. I also help them set up their iPhones and Android phones to login with their District email when using the Khan Academy app. It is mid-year and this issue rarely happens now. On 2 occasions, there was a technical glitch, through multiple screen captures and email conversations, they were resolved by Zendesk, Khan Academy's technical support. They were very helpful. Again, by far the most common reason for not seeing the student's time was the student was not logged on to an account I could see. I hope this helps. Click the up arrow if it did. Cheers.
