User Name

I am also having this issue.  I can't tell who the students are so it makes monitoring their progress difficult... I don't know WHO to "coach"!

Hi Jorge & Meiling. My name is Lisa Krueger and I am a Khan Academy Ambassador teaching in Chicago. Students can edit their names:

1. Click on name in top right hand corner

2. Click Learning Home

3. Click Edit Profile

4. Edit Real Name

So I have to depend on each of my students' parents to do this, and we can't see them by default as their teacher? This seems like a lot of extra work and hoping I have to count on 28 people doing instead of being able to see my students by default.  This doesn't help me if I can't match their changed username with who they are.

Meiling I apologize for the confusion, I was under the impression you were looking for a way to have your students edit their names. Can I get some clarification? How were the student accounts created? Did you set them up or did the parents or the students? What grade level do you teach? If the student accounts were created using email addresses you can go to the Manage Students tab to see what user name was chosen based on the email address listed. I do apologize if my earlier information was not helpful. Together I'm sure we can figure this out without making extra work for you or your students.

I am having this issue as well. I teach 7th grade. If the student is not 13, they have to have a parent manage their account (it seems). A Parent sent me this:

Is there a way to for students to change their user name to a more recognizable name for the teacher? If they are younger than 13, is there any way to not have to ask each individual parent to change the name or set up a Khan Academy account of their own? Or is there another option of changing their age on their account so they have access to changing their names on their own?

Hello all! Unfortunately, if the student is younger than 13 years they are unable to make changes to their accounts. I agree that it is frustrating that as a teacher you do not have access to student accounts. The KA developers are compiling a "wish-list" based on user questions, comments, and suggestions. I know that giving teacher's access to student account information and eliminating the access issues for students under 13 is one of the top concerns! I am sorry I don't have better news. Please continue to post comments, questions, and suggestions.
