Anyone else about ready to give up on Khan Academy?
After investing a lot of time trying to learn how KA works, and reading lots and lots of 'help' pages telling me everything except what I want to know, and setting up several classes, I'm about ready to call it quits and cut my losses.
This clearly has not been set up by people with classroom experience and actually working with live students in person, although the emails I'm getting clearly indicated KA is interested in getting into more schools.
Can anyone find information anywhere about how the mastery level challenges are programmed. I have students achieve 'practiced' then lose their status and have to start over again trying to get 5 in a row correct just because they miss-enter an answer on a mastery challenge. Why do students go DOWN from a level they have already achieved. This is very discouraging- especially with the length of time it takes to answer some of the calculus questions. Is getting 5 in a row correct really appropriate for anything other than basic arithmetic problems, especially when the problems have so many interesting and useful variations in them in the upper math levels (which I had considered a plus and one of the reasons I wanted to use KA).
The KA PR machine keeps churning away, yet they can't seem to make anyone available to teachers, even through this posting site to offer any kind of explanations or help with figuring out how this thing is programmed.
Anyone else feel this way? Anyone at KA listening?
