I can't find out how to determine whether a number is prime except trying to divide it by x numbers until I do or don't reach one.
There seems like there should be a formula or something you can use for this, or it is a waste of time to bother with them.
Please help, I'm about to give up on Algebra.
This actually leads to some interesting areas. Prime numbers are crucial because they are the building blocks of math as we know it. There is no formula known for finding a prime number. There are some contests for finding the largest prime number that have some serious money attached.
The easiest algorithm to find out if a number is prime is to try dividing it by every prime up to the square root of the number. Of course, this gets complicated when you are dealing with really big numbers.
