Hello Khan Academy!

Today we are introducing Khanmigo, a new experimental artificial intelligence (AI) guide, which a limited number of users will have access to. As a nonprofit educational organization, we see it as our responsibility to explore what AI could mean for the future of education.

For learners, Khanmigo aims to mimic one-on-one tutoring experiences by providing tailored support, prompting critical thinking, and suggesting relevant resources.

For teachers, we aim to have Khanmigo serve as an assistant that helps with administrative tasks to save time.

We’re inviting a small number of teachers, students, and donors to join a pilot program to test out Khanmigo. The few participants in our pilot will be our partners on a learning journey, helping us improve AI. Our goal is to maximize the educational benefits of this technology while mitigating the risks.

Hi walter! Thank you for reaching out! I would double check on your account if you:

1. Have a birthday set

2. If it is correct

You can do this by logging into your Khan Academy account, visiting your settings page and double checking the birthday. Below is a screenshot of how to do this!

I would also double check that the email address on your Khan Academy account is the same one you used to sign up for Khanmigo on the Khan Labs site.

Khanmigo is a new and ever-evolving product though so we are excited to have this small pilot of testers explore its potential and where it can be improved upon. We don't have all the answers just yet, but are working to find them!

That being said, while we aren't able to open up the testing to users outside of the US at this time, our focus is on using AI to benefit education as a whole. That's why the pilot isn't just for monthly donors, but for some teachers and students in our school district partnerships as well.

Be very cautious with this ai though, it has a high level of inaccuracy for it to be useful for learning.

It's very disappointing that Khanmigo is only available to residents of the US. When will Canadians be allowed to participate?

Khan Academy... Thank you so much for adding Khanmigo and accepting me into the beta program.

I have been using ChatGPT and You.com as a tutor for a few weeks. Bing is less help because of the limited amount of turns. Having a natural conversation chatbot designed specifically for tutoring without limited turns is exactly what I have needed, especially when it does not get distracted and try to divert the chat.

No doubt my kids and I will find Khanmigo exceptionally helpful and may even encourage my kids to spend more time on their studies.

Thank you for your thoughtful questions and enthusiasm about Khanmigo! We're here to answer your questions.

Why is Khanmigo limited to users based in the United States that are over 18 years old?

Khanmigo is currently in its pilot phase, and because of this, we're only testing with a limited number of users in the United States. At this time, we do not have a timeline of when users outside of the United States will be eligible to test it, or the details of if it will be available on the mobile app.

Since there is so much that we're learning in the pilot phase, we want to start with a smaller, more contained group while we develop this new technology— this is also why we are only giving users above the age of 18 access to Khanmigo at this time. Parents however, once given access to Khanmigo, can enable access for their children through their settings page.

What kind of AI technology is being used to power Khanmigo?

Khanmigo is powered by Chat GPT-4, and you can learn more about the technology, along with a full demo, in this blog post from Sal Khan.

Will Khanmigo become available for all users?

We know we'll learn a lot during this testing period, including the success metrics for Khanmigo. We can assure you, though, that our long-term goal is to develop Khanmigo as an accessible, helpful tool for everyone.

As a homeschooler, I recently completed the installation steps for Khanmigo using my parent's account. However, I did not receive any email confirmation or notification from Khanmigo. I noticed a comment mentioning that Khanmigo is currently just available in the US and not in Canada, I assume that the reason for not receiving any confirmation is because I am located in Canada. Could you kindly let me know when Khanmigo will be made available in Canada so that I can start using it? I appreciate the opportunity to learn more and am thankful for the creative new features your site provides. Thank you! :)

I have been approved as a parent to use and test Beta Khanmigo. I have added my child. But where do i send him to start with Khanmigo? I don't see any AI courses that he can select?

edit... Found it. First thing my 15old daughter says... "This is so fun!"

Hello I am thrilled about khanmingo but the thing is I did not get a link to khanmingo I am 19 years old, please look into this! I have this account for my little brother who is in 6th grade, as a gaurdian I would love it if you give us khanmingo

I was skeptical at first, but after Sal's Ted Talk (good idea, that) - using computer programming and math, the two classes we most need this help in, as examples! - I really wanted to sign up for my kids and myself. I donated and were "in!" But ... I can only see Khanmigo on my Khan Academy page. My son can't see it on his. I've submitted a ticket.

I still don't understand why it's limited to only US citizens. If it's really because you need to test is so much with a limited group why did you announce it to the whole world before testing it extensively?

Now you have hyped half the world, but you only allow US citizens. And what if things go wrong and khanmigo fails in some way? Then you would've hyped up half the world for nothing.

I am a student from Pakistan, and I have completed several courses at Khan Academy, I love it very much as the explanations are obvious and the process is quite fun, I feel very accomplished after completing a certain course. Hence I was quite disappointed when I learned that Khanmingo is unavailable in Pakistan. I know that it is a very recent project and it is quite hard to supply all over the world, but after using it, you find that it is almost crucial to learning not only on Khan Academy's website but on any educational subject whatsoever.

I sincerely hope that this amazing A.I chatbot, which is crucial for learning becomes available in Pakistan as quickly as possible.
