resetting quizzes and practices
please make an option to reset practices or quizzes so that i can start it from the beginning if i had left it in the middle
Hi,
I have some great news to share with you!
Based on the feedback you and many others shared, Khan Academy has launched a new feature that allows learners to start over an activity without needing to fully complete it first— it’s called the “Start Over” link!
We hope you will enjoy this new feature, and welcome any feedback you have about it. Passion from the Khan Academy community helped bring this feature to life, and we truly thank you for sharing your thoughts about it. You helped make Khan Academy a better learning resource for everyone!
For more information about the “Start Over” link, please check out our Community announcement.
Thanks again, and happy learning!
Kind regards,
Hi Aadyot,
I think Khan Academy has this set this way so that users can't take advantage of the system, and just right don the answers, and get them all right after they come back a second time.
come on, I accidentally pressed check halfway through a question!
Yes, I agree that we need this option. I've been trying to get perfect scores on my quizes/tests, and it's really annoying when I have to go through the entire assignment over and over because I messed up one problem. I don't want my score to be lowered because of this. Also, I don't know what Alex is talking about. Every time you start a test or quiz over, the problems are randomly generated, so we wouldn't be "taking advantage"of anything.
i do agree too, its always a problem to restart the whole 30 question quiz because of 1 wrong question
Clarification, part 1 - If you leave a test/quiz/exercise in the middle of it, you will pick up where you left off. So if you have done, say, 11 of the 19 questions in a unit test, you will restart at question 12. You will not have a chance to go backwards and start again until you finish it.
Clarification, part 2 - If you finish a test/quiz/exercise and take it again, you will get a new set of questions, at least most of the time. You may get a repeat question if you take the test/quiz/exercise enough times that the pool of potential problems is exhausted for a particular skill.
(Exception to part 1 above - there is a bug in the iPad app that will prevent completion after the last question in the test or quiz if you got one or more wrong - not certain about exercises - that will cause you, in frustration, to go back to the menu page before completion is marked. The symptom is that a grayed-out box makred Loading appears in the bottom right corner of your screen and doesn’t go away. If you go back into the test/quiz, it will resume at the question immediately after one of your incorrect answers. If you had multiple incorrect, and the test/quiz resumed before one or more of them, and you answer it/them correctly this time through, it will be considered correct. However, you also run the danger of getting wrong any of the ones you got correct the first time through. Also, since this bug and subsequent restart occur only after at least one incorrect answer, you don’t get the chance to correct all of your wrong ones.)
I'm an AP Physics student in high school and my teacher assigned us the entire AP Physics section as a grade, I got a very poor grade on it because of how infuriated i'd get for getting even one question wrong
If I had a reset button It would've at least dulled the pain a little bit. But in general I think that there is an issue with how khan treats these quizzes.
Same. I hate how whenever I make one small mistake, I have to finish the rest of the quiz (without randomly plugging in numbers, so my skill level doesn't go down) then restart it from the beginning.
I have the same problem. I always want to get a full 100% on a quiz or a practice, but I get one question wrong and I have to redo everything.
I agree and disagree:
On practices, a single perfect run gets you to proficient so it doesn't matter if you level down.
On quizzes and tests, a wrong answer can indicate you are fully clear on your understanding and so it should count if you make the mistake (even if that mistake was a typo on your part)
If KA were to include a reset feature on quizzes and tests, then it would still need to count all wrong answers that have been submitted up to that point (and thus, would likely still result in levelled down skills). It may not be worth the development time to implement this change.
With all that said, I think that when a test is taking upwards of 20 minutes it can be very demoralizing to know that if you make a mistake early on then you have to meticulously complete it for zero benefit. This does seem to increase the pain points in the learning process.. on the other hand, it may increase attentiveness to detail.
Overall... don't hold your breath for this feature. :(
Adam Prance I think that would still be fine. If my proficiency goes down on that one question I missed, that would be aok. The painful part is having to go through the rest of it knowing that I'll have to do it again anyway, losing that proficiency in the end as well.
I ACCIDENTALLY PRESSED B I MEANT TO PRESS D!!! I agree they need a go back feature in khan that can only last for 3 seconds because if you did what I did it would be a quick fix :). and on paper and tests you can always erase your answer with a pencil so you should be able to erase your answer. I think there should also still be hints but it shouldn't give you the answer it should just help you on the problem.
I agree I think that Kahn academy should definetely make a reset button because I was at 99 % skill level I got one question wrong and the entire thing went kaput
I need a Reset button. Whenever I make an error in a quiz, even the smallest typo, I have to finish the test and restart the quiz from scratch. By the way, in some quizzes, hints or videos are missing! Making the quiz harder and decreasing the possibility of advance. I wish you to add the reset button.

Add a reset body. You’re wasting time and precious resources of ours, and even yourself. Not just time and energy, but money too, as we need to get to work at some point. Let us save time, please.

The "Start Over" is the worst thing ever. Students DO take advantage. At the very least give teachers the option to turn off this feature.
