Computer Science: Where to begin, then next, then next...
Dear Khan Academy,
What should I learn before I pursue the computer science section?
I opened the section and got lost rather quickly; 'huh, hewdy-whatty?'...
Should I begin with the programming courses first?
Is there a batting order, as in doing the programming courses first, then doing the computer science courses, or throw some other stuff in there too?
The math section is a little more obvious: Zero background??... start with kindergarten or basic math.
Related to being lost:
It's the language and terms that are running off and leaving me.
I could use a dictionary or glossary on computer science language/jargon. A 'full stack' makes me think of lots of pancakes on a plate. Pass the blueberry syrup, please.
Does Khan Academy have a companion glossary for the programming and/or computer science sections?
I worked on computer systems in college and got to be pretty good at being able to fix them and to get them to run when no one else could; saved lots of stuff from getting thrown away that could run just fine with a few adjustments or parts.
Then and now, my understanding of computer terms and computer speak never got much beyond 'doo-hicky'.
I can use 'doo-hicky' in a sentence if you would like: 'This is the 'doo-hicky' that you gotta mount to the case and plug in to the circuit board to make the computer run like it's suppose to'.
Programming, circuits, radio and related electronics topics have become fascinating to me; completely and totally interested in discovery in the related areas. If I had it to do over again, I'd do computer science and/or electrical engineering or physics; the small watt stuff that doesn't make you explode from one mistake, like electronic circuit boards and small electric motors. Flux-capacitors need 1.21 gigawatts. That's too many gigawatts for me.
Hey, wait a minute! Khan Academy came along and fixed the had it to do over again stuff. Now, we have it to do over again, or to start with in the first place, second place and home plate. What a deal!
Khan World is a great idea; awesome, baby!
Don't spare the magenta!
Thumbs up to Sal and company,
Marteeeen
