Add a "Add a Friend" feature

I agree! My husband and I just signed up and would love to become "friends" so we can check out each other's progress and have some friendly competition. :)

Agead! On the Edit Profile page it says friends can see your name. how do you get friends!

Please work on this if you can. It would be beyond incredible to be friends on Khan Academy with those I care about and encourage them to progress.

Yeah I'd like this too. I'd like to have friends on here like there is on Duolingo.

I respectively request that Khan Academy show restraint in adding a friends community here and, if they do decide to add it, make it an option on ALL platforms to opt out of it. The Khan Academy resources would be better spent in such popularly-requested enhancements such as adding the capability to reset practices, quizzes, tests, and mastery problems and to eliminate the waiting periods to resume mastery problems than to make it yet another social media presence.

I would like to add to this. I would like to be able to "friend" or, more accurately, bookmark people who I know will be helpful to my greater understanding and learning of the skills I have interest in. The end result would be extremely beneficial to learning. Learning teammates! <3

Add a friend feature will be awesome.

• We can have competition among us.
• We can practice together and clear among ourself when studying.
• We can study together.

Its going to be so much fun. I am home schooled so i don't make that many friends.

I use Datacamp for learning R and we had a little group of friends in our class whose main goal was to top our class leader board. We just happened to be learning a lot of R at the same time but it was super nerdy fun. The score only updated every 12 hours or so, so Id wake up and check the score and see who had jumped up by a thousand points or so. Did I move up or down a rank. 

I'd love for Khan Academy to have the same. I'd like to study with my brother and get a rivalry going. 

This would be a great function. Connecting with people studying things similar to you and using resources similar to you can be difficult, especially on a larger global scale, but a place like KhanAcademy seems uniquely placed to facilitate it. I'd second all the proposed benefits in this thread, e.g increased friendly competition, being updated on the things those around us are learning, having useful and productive social interactions which are academically minded rather than vacuous like those of social media as it exists, and ultimately, rather than self-motivation (which is useful to develop, but not to rely on solely) working together to motivate each other and being better than the sum of our parts. And maybe even having a higher sense of accountability if other people you're friends with can see your academic progress, or lack thereof. Though of course such a function should be able to be opted out of.

I registered at the webpage fairly recently. Because I liked the idea of learning I suggested it to my nephew and wanted to be able to help him improve learning even if it meant from distance. He asked me if we could be friends and discuss the studies and to this day I have been looking to find it in the application until I came accross this old post. I wonder why the friend/buddy/peer system is still out of reach even after many requests from Khan academy users.
