Javascript type Specifics.

Hello, Khan academy was the first side I ever coded on, I got relatively competent with JavaScript but didn't pursue it very far, I finished the JavaScript courses and soon moved to Code Academy which also teaches JavaScript. Recently I've been trying to find out the specific types of JavaScript are being taught here since I noticed that these are heavily animation oriented where as Code Academy were more utility stuff that would be implemented into websites or just used to display information. So, to wrap this up my question is simply what type of JavaScript is being taught here and what type is Being taught in Code Academy? Since they both are named JavaScript yet they have very big differences in uses the Global variables(wrong term?) that they accept and what they do.

KA has 2 types of JS-projects, the PJS projects are setup so that the variables from the Processing.JS library and the standard math library are global (I believe there's some custom code for getImage and getSound though) and the code is checked with various tools (see https://khanacademy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202260394-What-programming-languages-do-you-teach-), the HTML projects, as far as I can remember, don't have any non-standard libraries or extras from any other JS course that is HTML-based, which is most of them, though it does restrict what domains you can access.

Hi Giokfc,

The main difference between the JavaScript on Khan Academy and other coding sites is that KA uses a library called Processing.js. Processing is focused on the visual way to draw and animate with JavaScript as base language, and also provides predefined functions which draw to a canvas.

This is how KA teaches the basics of the actual JavaScript language, so that the drawing and animation interests younger learners. The same is true for the Hour of Code.

KA does teach how JavaScript is used in the browser here, probably what you're more familiar with:
