Moving student from one class to another

Khan Academy was designed for the self-motivated student, rather than for school. As a result,it's designed so that the students add and remove coaches/teachers, rather than the other way around.

I just found out (by accident) how this can be done!  After creating the shell of the new classes, go to the roster of the original class, then put a check mark (at the right edge of the screen) by the students you want to move to the other class. At the top of the column with the check marks, click the Actions dropdown and you have the option of "Add to Class". Choose the class you want to add them to and follow the prompts. This doesn't take them out of the class they were in originally, just adds them to the new class but you can repeat the process and just choose "Remove from class" in the same place to finish the move.

Teachers can certainly add, remove or transfer students.  

Also, if student's were able to do as you say, how does that make them "more self-motivated"?  Or should I say, how does that assist the student who is "more self-motivated"? 

Teachers can only add students if the student then clicks on the notification and approves it (at least, I think that's the way it still works). At some point, the student has to approve. Compare this to if a student adds a coach -- it's immediately in effect.

You're right, though, that once a student and teacher/coach are connected, the coach can assign that student to a class, move that student from one class to another, or remove the student from her coaching altogether. 

And I think you misunderstood what I meant about self-motivated. I was just saying that Khan Academy was originally designed without teachers or coaches in mind -- it was put in place strictly for people all around the world to work on math on their own, learning at their own pace without help from any external source.  The way the student/coach system works today is still a reflection of that original design -- students can add and remove coaches whenever they want, but a coach can only add a student if the student approves of it.  That's all.

I don't see a place to check, and I the actions button is grayed out (unavailable). 

I'm guessing the original commentator is correct, if the student is 13 or over. I think the one who move the classes must be an elementary teacher, and the kids are under 13. Teachers have more access to accounts of younger students.

If anyone knows how I can do this with my secondary students please help.

If I give a new class code for a students, assigned the same things in both classes, will it transfer their progress?
