Help! My school won't let me use Khan Academy!
I teach math at an alternative school. There are only 3 blocks for all middle school and high school students. That means that I will have 6th grade, 7th grade, 8th grade, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Algebraic Connections, and Pre-Calculus students in the same class. In one class I have 6 gradebooks! I also get 2-3 new students a week. Whole group instruction has to be accessible to all students which is a challenge. I have used khan academy off and on for 10 years, but this semester I implemented it fully. Class would be half whole group and half Khan Academy. It was amazing. The kids loved it!
Not long ago, I was called in to the principal's office and told that I must use the online curriculum that the school district paid for instead of Khan Academy. It is not very effective. It is basically a textbook that grades quizzes. I can hardly monitor their activity. I can only see quiz scores and the last time the student logged in.
I want to use Khan Academy, but I am afraid of a huge battle. My school is not one where you go against the administration.
Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, what did you do? If not, any advice?
