MAP Recommendations
How do I see the student progress on MAP recommendations as a teacher?
I looked on the progress of students that I know have been working on it, but I cannot find the MAP recommendations progress.
Hello!
As part of our Support Community improvement project, we’re preserving inactive posts that have historical or community value and closing them to new comments. This is one of them!
If this post covers a topic that you’re interested in discussing with the community or requests a feature you’d like to see on Khan Academy, you can try to find an active post about it and add your thoughts (or feel free or create a new post if it doesn’t yet exist in the forum).

On the same page where you added their scores you will see "5 out of 52 topics finished in Geometry" or something like that. This is the only way so far to check their progress on the MAP recommendations.
Hi Deborah! My name is Megan G and I am Khan Academy Ambassador and middle school math teacher in Chicago. I having been using the NWEA MAP math recommendations tool with my students since the fall and I have seen some great results. Could you clarify what you are looking to see on your end as a coach? When you say that you cannot find the MAP recommendations progress it sounds like you are looking for a report of some sort to export? Would that be correct? I am looking for an answer on the Khan Academy end to help you with your request. Any additional information you could provide would be very helpful to Khan Academy's support of teachers like yourself. Thank you for posting.
The first answer gives me a way to see student progress. In response to the 2nd answer, I was looking for a report of just the MAP progress that I could export. Thank you both!
Hi Deborah,
Mr. R and Ms. G already covered things well. Just to summarize:
1. You can see progress on khanacademy.org/maptest like "5 of 52 done"
2. All the exercises they complete will show up in coach reports too.
3. You can't isolate MAP progress from other progress on coach tools yet, unfortunately.
It's definitely an area we want to improve! Suggestions welcome.
I teach 7th grade math and am trying to use the site for my students to improve their MAP scores. It would be great if there were a way to keep them from exiting the MAP questions and moving on to more generalized questions when you want them to do specific MAP training. Also, I have trouble remembering how to get to the Coach's page.
Hi Bethany,
It is really tough to keep kids on the MAP page unless they buy in to the idea of working at the level they tested at.Some kids may have had a great day, had some lucky guesses and tested a bit higher than they are really comfortable at. If this is the case you can adjust their scores to make the content easier for them. Hopefully they understand the questions should be difficult, but not too difficult they can't figure them out with some mental effort, reading some of the hints, watching videos and getting help from a friend.
As for how to get to your coach page, click on your username in the top right and then choose "Your Students". In the Settings you can also choose your Coach page to be your homepage on Khan Academy. Under Settings, go to Roles and there is a drop down next to the word Homepage.
Hope this helps!
I teach 6th grade and have been using the MAP scores on and off throughout this school year. My problem is that the recommended assignments based on my students' individual MAP scores for each domain seem to be either too easy or too advanced for about half of my class. I tried entering the MAP scores myself, as well as having students enter their scores (using the lowest score of the given ranges). Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Kathy
Hello Kathy! That has not been an issue at my school, but I did have students not following the recommended skills and instead scrolling down to the bottom and randomly clicking on the skills. I explained that this completely defeats the purpose of the site and redirected them to their recommended skills. Please let me know if you have any further questions, comments, or suggestions. Thank you for posting.
