I absolutely HATE that there is only a certain amount of time you can do mastery challenges! I think everything about Khan Academy is great, except that. Right now I have 99% mastered a subject. And then it says I can't practice for another 8 whole hours!! This really needs to change. It seems like I am only practicing for 5 minutes, and then I can't do anymore! I don't believe that anybody likes it like this, and I also believe that there is no point for a timer. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change this!

Hi Patience,

There is a legitimate reason for the timer, even though it can be very annoying, like when you are ready to finish a subject!

Research suggests that skills are learned best when they're practiced repeatedly over several days. For this reason, you’ll sometimes see a timer indicating when your next mastery challenge will be available. This has been proven in my learning experiences, after I've practiced a hard skill, waiting only strengthens my ability to remember the processes.
