What happens after students take an Interim Assessment? What are Learning Paths?

After students complete a Khan Academy Interim Assessment, their results are used to generate personalized practice recommendations called Learning Paths. Learning Paths help students strengthen skills where they need additional support while keeping the work anchored to their grade level.

Learning Paths are available for:

• Middle school math: Grades 6, 7, and 8
• High school math: Algebra 1 and Geometry
• High school ELA: Grades 9–10 and Grades 11–12

Note: Students won't receive Learning Path recommendations until they've completed a Khan Academy Interim Assessment.

What do Learning Paths look like for students?

After a teacher approves a student's placement, Learning Path missions appear on the student's dashboard in the Unit Missions section

Recommended Learning Path content is also included in the student's daily and weekly missions. This means students can encounter their recommended practice as part of their regular mission flow without opening a Personal mission directly.

How do students progress through Learning Paths?

Students work through Learning Path missions similarly to other unit missions by completing exercises, watching videos, and building mastery.

Students also earn Gems when they complete Learning Path missions, just as they do when completing other unit missions.

What should teachers know about Learning Path assignments?

Keep these details in mind when working with Learning Paths:

• Learning Path work does not display an Overdue label. Due dates are set to the end of the school year and cannot be changed.
• After a placement has been assigned, it cannot be removed. A teacher can move the student to a different level instead.
• Teachers cannot choose or change the content included in a Learning Path. The recommended content is determined by the student's Interim Assessment performance.
• If a student is in multiple classes with different teachers, placements set in one class don't appear in the other.
• Learning Path assignments do not appear on the Assignments tab or in the Assignments report. They are managed from the Placements tab.

How can teachers track Learning Path progress?

Teachers can monitor students' Learning Path progress using the Activity report and Placements report.

Activity report

On the Activity report, use the Isolate learning paths content toggle to filter the report and view only Learning Path-related progress for your students.

Placements report

The Placements report provides an overview of each student's placement, current level, and progress across strands.

Remember: Learning Path progress does not appear on the Assignments tab or in the Assignments report. Use the Placements tab, Activity report, and Placements report to manage placements and monitor students' Learning Path progress.
