What student data is collected for interim assessments, and how is it protected?

Data collected during an assessment falls into two categories:

• Student response data: item-level responses, time spent per item, time spent per test, total items answered, and Explain Your Thinking conversation text.
• Student demographic data (if provided by the district): school, grade level, class name, race/ethnicity, gender, English Learner status, special education/IEP status, Section 504 status, and accommodations used.

Why we collect it

Response and demographic data are used together to evaluate item and test quality and to help ensure the assessments are fair and equitable across student groups. For Live assessments, response data is also used to produce student scores.

How it is protected

• Only a small, approved team of analysts can access demographic data, limited to what they need for their work.
• We report only combined, aggregate results, and we suppress small groups so no individual can be identified.
