What is the Readiness Check?

Updated

If your teacher assigned you a Readiness Check, you're in the right place! Here's what it is, how it works, and what you can expect after you finish.

The Readiness Check is a short math assessment that helps Khan Academy choose practice that's just right for you.

It asks questions about skills from earlier grades to see what you already know and where you can keep growing. Then, it creates personalized practice to support you as you learn new topics.

Don't worry about getting every question right. The goal isn't to earn a score. It's to help Khan Academy understand what practice will be most helpful for you.

Take the Readiness Check

When your teacher assigns the Readiness Check, you'll see it in your assignments.

You can complete it at your own pace and come back later if you need to.

The Readiness Check:

  • has about 36 questions
  • has no time limit
  • can be paused and finished later
  • doesn't affect your mastery, Gems, or streak

Get personalized practice

After you finish the Readiness Check, Khan Academy uses your answers to create practice that's personalized for you.

If there are skills that could help you with upcoming lessons, Khan Academy will automatically create extra practice just for you.

There's nothing else you need to do. Your personalized practice is created automatically.

Keep learning

Your personalized practice may appear in two places.

Readiness exercises

As you work through your Daily and Weekly Missions, you may see Readiness exercises before some of your regular assignments.

These exercises give you a chance to practice important skills before you learn something new.

Just like other practice exercises on Khan Academy, Readiness exercises:

  • earn Gems
  • count toward your streak
  • help build your mastery

Readiness Mission

You'll also see a Readiness Mission on your dashboard.

Your Readiness Mission brings all of your Readiness exercises together in one place, so you can work through them whenever you'd like.

When you reach Proficient on every skill in your Readiness Mission, you'll earn a 10-Gem bonus.

Keep making progress

Once you've completed the Readiness Check, just keep learning as you normally would.

If you have Readiness exercises, they'll appear automatically as you work through your missions. They'll help you build the skills you'll need for upcoming lessons.

That's it! Just keep learning. We'll make sure your personalized practice is there when you need it.
