How do I use the student dashboard in Khan Academy?

Your student dashboard is your home base in Khan Academy. It's where you can find assigned work, track your progress, view your Gems, and access the tools available to you.

What you'll see on your dashboard

When you sign in, you'll see several cards that help you track your progress at a glance.

Mastery Learning

The Mastery Learning card shows your progress toward becoming Proficient and Mastered in the skills you've been working on.

Missions Completed

The Missions Completed card shows how many Daily missions, Weekly missions, and Unit Missions you've completed.

Gem Challenge

The Gem Challenge card shows your class's current Gem Challenge and your contribution toward the goal.

As you complete assigned work and earn Gems, your progress will update automatically.

My class

Near the top of your dashboard, you'll see the class you're currently viewing.

Use the dropdown menu to switch between classes if you're enrolled in more than one class.

Learning Queue

Your Learning Queue is where you'll find the work assigned by your teacher.

Assignments are organized into:

  • Daily missions for work due today and tomorrow
  • Weekly missions for work due later in the week
  • Unit Missions for work connected to a specific unit

Work is sorted by due date so you can quickly see what to do next.

If you have overdue assignments, they'll appear in your daily and weekly mission  so you can catch up on missed work.

To see all assignments, select View all assignments.

Gems

You'll find your Gem count near the top right of your dashboard. Click it for more information

You earn Gems by completing assigned work, including:

  • Exercises
  • Quizzes
  • Unit tests
  • Course challenges
  • Missions

You never lose Gems once you've earned them.

Your teacher may also set a Gem Challenge for the class. Every Gem earned contributes toward the shared class goal. When the class reaches the goal, everyone unlocks the class reward.

You can customize your Khanmigo with Gems. Every 50 Gems unlocks a random accessory for Khanmigo.

Streaks

Your streak tracks how many weeks in a row you've leveled up skills on Khan Academy.

To keep your streak going, earn Proficient on at least one new skill each week.

The weekly window runs from Monday through Sunday (Pacific Time). If no new skills reach Proficient during the week, your streak resets.

You can view your current streak on your dashboard and on your Achievements page.

Khanmigo

Depending on the features available at your school, Khanmigo may appear as a motivational companion or as a tutoring assistant.

If tutoring is enabled for your account, you can ask questions, get help with problems, and explore new topics.

Pages you can access from the navigation menu

The navigation menu on the left side of your screen gives you access to additional pages.

Tutor Me

Tutor Me lets you start a new conversation with Khanmigo.

If tutoring is available for your account, you can ask questions, get help with problems, or explore topics.

If tutoring is not available, you'll see a message letting you know the feature isn't enabled for your account.

Achievements

The Achievements page shows your progress and accomplishments.

Here, you can view:

  • Your Gems and Gem Challenge progress
  • Your Proficient skills
  • Your Mastered skills
  • Your current streak

History

History lets you review your past activity.

The Overview tab shows completed assignments and activities.

The Chat History tab shows previous conversations with Khanmigo.

Note: Chat History is only available if Khanmigo tutoring is enabled for your account.

Browse Subjects

Browse Subjects lets you explore courses and content across Khan Academy.

Use this page to discover topics that interest you or explore content beyond your assigned work.

Teacher-assigned work will always appear in your Learning Queue.

Settings

Settings lets you manage your account and customize your experience.

From Settings, you can:

  • Update your profile
  • Turn on accessibility features
  • Adjust video playback preferences
  • Change your preferred language

Some settings may be managed by your school and may not be editable.

Help

Help takes you to the Khan Academy Help Center, where you can find answers to common questions and troubleshooting resources.

Log out

To log out, select your name at the bottom of the navigation menu.
