Why do the MAP Accelerator Teacher Progress and Individual Student Activity Log reports show different minutes measurements?
Teachers may notice different time measurements for an individual student on their MAP Accelerator Progress report versus their Individual Student Activity Log report, and this is because the MAP Accelerator Progress report is specific to that class’s assigned MAP Accelerator placements for each student. This means that the total learning minutes in the MAP Accelerator Progress report only include learning time that students have accumulated on that class most recently-assigned placements.
Example: Teju’s MAP Accelerator placements
You can see the work done by Teju only for his assigned placements in this teacher’s class, including Operations and Algebraic Thinking 220-223.
Individual Student Activity Log report:
You can see all of the work Teju has done including his math teacher’s assigned Operations and Algebraic Thinking 220-223 in red and also that he has worked on Operations and Algebraic Thinking 192-202 in blue, which was not assigned to him by this teacher.
This means that if a student is navigating to un-assigned placements, for example, a teacher assigned a student the Operations and Algebraic Thinking 220-223 placement but that student ended up working on the Operations and Algebraic Thinking 192-202 placement, then their progress would not show up on the teacher progress report because Operations and Algebraic Thinking 192-202 was not assigned to this student in this class.
The Individual Student Activity Log report, on the other hand, includes minutes spent on any topic--not only those spent on MAP Accelerator assigned placement for that class. In the Individual Student Activity Log report, you are able to filter by MAP instructional areas, all content, and course mastery goals. It is likely, then, that the Individual Student Activity Log report will show more minutes, especially if a student is using Khan Academy for something other than MAP Accelerator or they are navigating away to other parts of Khan Academy.
Students only have access to their Individual Student Progress report, which is the same data the teacher sees in the Individual Student Activity Log report, and so this is the number that they will see as well, which may not align with what a teacher sees on their MAP Accelerator Progress report account.
That being said, students can verify if they are working on their assigned learning path by checking the orange on-task banner while they're practicing. For more details on the orange on-task banner, please refer to this article.
