What happened to the essay feedback activity?

Writing Coach expands on the original Academic Essay Feedback activity by allowing students to get support from Khanmigo throughout the full essay-writing process prior to generating feedback and revising their first draft. While the original Academic Essay Feedback activity no longer exists as a separate activity, students can still receive feedback on their essays without having to complete the entirety of the Writing Coach experience.

To do this, we recommend that students click “Begin new essay” from their Writing Coach activity page and enter their assignment information (or you can create a Writing Coach assignment for your class) and then take the following steps :

  • Skip the Understanding stage by clicking “Next: Start Outlining”.
  • Enter a short thesis in the Outline, then click “Next: Start Drafting”.
  • Paste their essay into the draft field.
  • Click “Next: Start Revising” to generate feedback.

Note: as the teacher, you will see their pasted text as an originality flag. If you expect students to paste their essays into the draft (as opposed to drafting it directly within Writing Coach) you can ignore those flags.
