How can we help?

How do I report different kinds of bugs and issues?

Updated

There are several ways to report an issue on Khan Academy. Submitting them correctly will help the team act more quickly, and understand the problem itself. Please check whether your issue should be reported through the Help Center by clicking the Report a problem button or through one of the special submit links, which you can access by clicking the most appropriate category below.

If your issue is not on this list, or you cannot use a more specific link, please use the Report a problem button in the Help Center. You'll find a link to the Help Center at the bottom of every Khan Academy page under Contact.

Possible technical issues with the site functionality

If you see an error message with a report link, please use it to report your problem.

If you have a problem with the Error Buddy/Oh Noes, please go through all the suggestions under Show me where first. If that does not help, use the Request help button to the lower left of the program view. Most bug reports we get where Error Buddy is involved turn out to be bugs in the user's code. If one of the experienced helpers tells you this is a Khan Academy bug, you can feel vindicated and use the Report a problem button in the Help Center.

Content Mistakes (exercises, articles, and videos) + Broken links

If you have a problem that seems to be specific to one page, and you see a report link, please use it to report your problem.

If you think that a screenshot would be helpful in describing the situation, you can report through that page's link, adding that you will send a screenshot through the Help Center, and then follow through.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to tell you exactly where to look for those report links, which will display text like Report a mistake or Report a problem, because the layout is changing.

  • On exercise pages, look on the right and/or near the submit button for answers.
  • On the CS Questions forum, look in the left margin under Flag inappropriate posts while scrolling further down almost to the bottom of the left-hand side menu.
  • On the Pixar interactive exercises, Pixar videos, and CS Interactive lessons (videos) the link may be on the top-right or bottom-right of the exercise.
  • On the videos, you'll have to start typing in the Ask a question text box below and choose the option that best fits your feedback. Provide a brief description of what you encountered.

If you cannot find the link to report the issue on the page, use the Report a problem button in the Help Center.

Problems finding information

You can use the search functions both on Khan Academy and in the Help Center. They do not search for the same material, even if some of the Help Center articles link to content on Khan Academy. If searching does not help, use the Report a problem button in the Help Center.

Inappropriate language or behavior

Flag first if possible. If flagging does not help, or if it is important the offending material should be removed quickly, use the Report a problem button in the Help Center. Please pick Report Inappropriate User Behavior when you get to What are you contacting us about?.

Typos in video transcripts or other text

If it is a typo or a garbled message in the YouTube subtitles, this is because YouTube uses an automatic speech-to-text tool to generate those subtitles. The tool is far from perfect and you should use the transcripts instead of the subtitles when possible. There is no need to send an error report about the subtitles.

If you find typos elsewhere, they should be treated as other Incorrect information.

Missing content or pages

If part of a page seems to be missing this should be reported as a bug

If a video or document or Khan Academy refers to a previous material ("As we heard in a previous video") that isn't there, this should be reported as a bug.

If you cannot find material that used to be on Khan Academy by searching, it could be that it has been removed on purpose. The site is dynamic and content is added, edited or withdrawn all the time. Use the Report a problem button in the Help Center.

Requesting new content or functionality

If you have ideas about content or functionality that would make a good addition to the site, this is a Feature request and should be reported in the appropriate forum. Please note that you must be logged in to the Khan Academy Help Center to write in the forum. The Help Center is hosted by Zendesk and is not covered by your Khan Academy login.

Site security or vulnerability issues

If you are worried about strange things you are seeing on your own account, please use the Report a problem button in the Help Center. Please pick Report Inappropriate User Behaviour when you get to What are you contacting us about?.

If you have questions about privacy on Khan Academy that aren't covered in the Privacy policy please use the link on the bottom of that page.

If you have a report about a technical vulnerability on the site, the correct place to report this is through hackerOne Should that not be feasible please use the Report a problem button in the Help Center. Please pick Report Inappropriate User Behavior when you get to What are you contacting us about?.
