The difference between squaring and cubing is that in squaring, you multiply a number by itself (n*n). cubing is similar, but you do it 3 times (n*n*n).

The 12 km/h is the speed at which the car was traveling, so 1/2 of an hour * 12km/h = 6km traveled in all. The 3 km is the distance from home to store one-way. I hope this explained it!
