Notice that sometimes the solution was (-2^2) BUT ONE TIME IT WAS (-1)^2 Why is it not consistent? I am trying to understand -2^2 compared to (-2)^2 so this video was a little confusing. Sometimes the exponent was placed inside the parenthesis and other times outside but it was for the same equation. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Generally speaking, -2^2 means -(2^2) = -4, and (-2)^2 = -2 x -2 = +4. In this particular video, the function is -3x^2 + 8, so all of the exponents can be though of as (x)^2 for some value of x. In other words, in this video the (-2^2) is really (-2)^2 = +4.
