Would KA be Eager to Provide Accessibility Support?
Hi,
I am a legally blind international student preparing for the LSAT via Khan Academy. When I first started, I had a little more vision that allowed me to read srandard font really up close or to utilize screen magnifiers for that end. However, I lost most of my residual vision within three weeks and that completely altered the way I interact with text and visual materials. LSAC provides accessibility support in the form of providing books transcribed to Braille, but I am not a reader of Braille. Since the speed settings of Microsoft Narrator are not easily adjustable and takes time, I use online TTS applications to have the practice questions read to me. Howeveri even that requires constantly going back and forth between tabs, copyinI seem to be demanding a lot from an institution that already serves me at no cost, g, pasting, deleting, speed adjusting etc. Since I am not tested under accommodated circumstances, I have to be extra fast, but sometimes I cannot comprehend passages or options. So I adjust the speed from question to question which causes me to lose a lot of time. This is why, I can never finish timed exercises on time and cannot see my true progress. I am not in a position to afford private tutoring pr having a reader at my side all the time and there is no prep program specially designed for students like me. In fact when I google "How blind students prepare for the LSAT?" all I get is some articles about the infamous "blind reviewing". My questiın is, would it be too hard for KA to put a button that pulls data or uses the capabilities of the Google Text Reader or any other OCR software on practice tabs? It would read the question out loud when pressed and a simple speed adjustment feature would be awesome. I know that I seem to be asking for too much from an institution that already serves me at no cost, I know this seems as going far and beyond for just one student, but, positively responding to such a request would strengthen KA's profile asa hub that is open to everyone with a craving for knowledge and as a platform that advocates for equal opportunity in education. Moreover, I believe there are hundreds or maybe even thousands of students who are held back by their financial, physical, geographical, or social disadvantages and if added, that function will help not just me but many others. It seems fitting to the pledge you made to serve to lifelong learners and it may break whatever spell that causes even the most just, well-meant, pure and innovative endeavors to show a complete disregard for those who need a solid education more than anyone else to beat the odds.
I will be eternally grateful for what you are already doing.
