I have to say that as a music teacher, I was energized and excited by how engaging the math video lessons were and was wondering if you had similar video lessons for music.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. After watching the very first video on notes and rhythm, I was shocked at the pace of new material being introduced. It was almost like watching a table of contents video of thirty separate theory lessons being taught at once!
You need to understand that the concept of introducing note values to students with no previous musical training (whether at the elementary, middle or high school level) is THE most challenging to teach because today's students are more interested in performing music on an instrument than on considering the abstract concept of what note duration values are. They don't want to invest their time on anything that won't generate immediate results and without having experienced a string of positive successes at their musical learning attempts, they won't want to commit to the rigor of learning any abstract concepts (like understanding note values) that require lots and lots of practice before mastery is achieved.
I would like to recommend that these music theory videos need to be divided and scaffolded into ONE segment activities, i.e., teach that a WHOLE note usually means to play and hold a sound for 4 beats, then give students ample opportunities to practice ONLY this concept (on an instrument of their choice) while watching the "now it's your turn" activity portion of the video. They could try tapping their foot while playing different pitches, changing instrument sounds on an electronic keyboard, playing and holding 2 keys, 3 keys, and more simultaneously using their left hand, than right hand, then both.
The point is, if you want students to be engaged in your music theory videos, the best way to accomplish this is to keep them limited to ONE idea at a time, followed by letting students practice the concept in as many ways as reasonably possible until they master it. THEN, continue with the next concept, i.e. "half notes = 2 beats". Scaffolding lessons works really well. Try it.

Hi pmason2, thanks for the feedback! Could you please post your comments in the Content requests and feedback, if similar request have not been made already? (You can search to see if they have. If so, jsut add your response to the existing one.) Unfortunately I have no way of moving an entry from one part of the forum to another.
It's not hard to agree with you that the current music theory section is much more like an overview than an attempt to teach.
